Fall Escape to Letchworth State Park – A Trip We’ll Always Remember

On 15 October 2024, we visited Letchworth State Park for the first time and it turned out to be one of the most beautiful fall trips we’ve taken in the US.

Since we live in Mississauga, the drive was around 3 hours and honestly, it never felt tiring. Once we crossed into New York and started getting closer to the park, the roads became incredibly scenic. The fall colors were everywhere. Bright orange, golden yellow, deep red and the entire drive started feeling like part of the experience itself.

It was one of those road trips where you don’t mind slowing down a little because every few minutes you want to look outside and take in the view.

By the time we reached Letchworth, it already felt worth the drive.

We had heard people call it the “Grand Canyon of the East,” but honestly, pictures don’t fully prepare you for how stunning the place actually is. The combination of multiple waterfalls, dramatic cliffs, endless forest views, and peak fall colors made the entire park feel unreal.

The drive into the park alone was worth it. Every road was lined with trees glowing in orange, red, and yellow, and the cool October air made everything feel calm and refreshing. It was one of those perfect fall days where the weather keeps changing between sunlight and dramatic clouds.

The highlight for us was seeing the waterfalls beneath a huge railroad bridge. Standing there and hearing the power of the water while mist drifted through the gorge was an experience that photos can’t fully capture.

We spent the day slowly exploring overlooks, walking along trails, and simply taking in the scenery. Since it was our first road trip with our son, we kept the pace relaxed, which actually made the experience better. Instead of rushing around, we had time to really enjoy the park.

One thing I loved about Letchworth was how peaceful it felt despite being a popular fall destination. Even with visitors around, the park never felt chaotic. There were so many quiet viewpoints and scenic spots where you could just pause and appreciate nature.

The trails were well maintained, parking was convenient near most major viewpoints, and there were plenty of spots to stop for photos or just enjoy the view. Whether you enjoy hiking, photography, road trips, or simply being outdoors, this park has something for everyone.

Perfect for a relaxed family day trip or weekend getaway.

Final Thoughts

This trip ended up being more than just a visit to another state park. It felt like one of those rare days where everything slows down for a while — good weather, beautiful scenery, peaceful trails, and quality time together.

Letchworth in the fall is truly something special, and I can honestly say it exceeded every expectation we had. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back in every season just to experience it differently.

If you’re planning a fall road trip in New York, this place deserves a spot at the top of your list. 🍁
